Job summary

To assist in the development the Networks Team to ensure the provision of a high quality Network service to the healthcare community, within existing budgets.

Acts as technical reference point for the Network infrastructure and include responsibility for all upgrades, new installations and implementations to meet the requirements of the Health Informatics Service (HIS).

Key Duties-

  • To assist the Network Manager / Deputy Network Manager with technical matters relating to voice and data communications.
  • To be solely responsible for resources allocated to specific projects.
  • Technical Leadership to the Communications Specialists

Main duties of the job

  • Responsible for the voice and data networks for the South Devon Health Community, where the HIS has responsibility for providing these services
  • Providing solutions to complex networking technical problems.
  • Motivating and Technical Leadership to Junior members of the Team in a fast moving/changing
  • Communication of highly complex information.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Responsible for ensuring the voice and data communications networks perform to agreed service levels
  • In depth knowledge of firewall technology and understanding of managing a secure IT environment.
  • In depth knowledge of the TCP/IP network protocol and network addressing issues, including those specific to the NHS.
  • Responsible in diagnosing networking faults, providing solutions and escalating to suppliers where appropriate
  • Responsible for ensuring that all networking operating system and relevant software/firmware is at the correct revision level
  • Ensures that any new installations of hardware and software are performed/supervised and completed to meet at least the requirements of the SLA
  • Ensures in ensuring maximum availability of networks to users involving out of hours work where necessary.
  • Takes part in any out of hours rota during weekdays and weekends as required
  • Responsible for managing the access control and operation of the secure gateway to the NHS network and the Internet, as defined by IT Security Policy
  • Ensures quality documentation for areas of responsibility
  • Provides prompt resolution of problems and responds to emergency call-outs
  • Ensures data network cabinets are routinely cleaned and inspected
  • Have a full clean driving licence to be able to travel between South Devon Health Community sites.
