MEMO Clinical Engineering (Medical Equipment Management Organisation) are based at the Bristol Royal Infirmary, and we are part of the UHBW NHS Trust. MEMO are responsible for maintaining and managing a wide range of medical equipment throughout the various hospitals within UHBW, and we have two apprenticeship positions available within the department, as follows:
- Mechanical Engineering - within the Mechanical Services Team, who specialise in maintaining, installing and managing the Medical Gas Pipeline Systems.
- Radiation Engineering - within the Radiology and Radiotherapy Teams, who specialise in maintenance, testing, calibration, and quality control procedures on a range of complex medical devices including Xray, CT, MRI, and Linacs.

You must be able to demonstrate a high level of manual dexterity in using a range of engineering tools and test equipment. The successful candidate will demonstrate a flexible and adaptable approach to working in both a clinical and workshop environments. Experience and/or interest in fault-finding techniques of mechanical/electrical equipment is desirable.
The apprenticeship is fixed term for 4 years, and upon apprenticeship completion you will move to a band 4 position.
Main duties of the job
Band 3 Apprentice Mechanical Engineer to undertake a 4 year training program:
You will receive full training throughout the 4-year apprenticeship, provided from both in-house and external training providers, as well as academic training and level 3 qualifications from Weston College.

During the training programme you will be supported to develop a range of practical and problem solving skills that will enable you to undertake maintenance and repair work on a wide variety of equipment that is found within a hospital. This will include routine servicing and breakdown maintenance, within a hospital environment.
