Clinical Research Fellow in Gynaecological Oncology (ST5+)

Job summary

The post is for a 6-12+ month period, and is due to become available to start in post August - October 2025.

Applications are invited from a committed and enthusiastic doctor for a Clinical Fellow post (ST5+) who will work within the Gynaecological Oncology department at St Michael's hospital, supported by the friendly and cohesive consultant team. This post is ideal for those wishing to publish first author research articles in preparation for subspecialty training in Gynaecology Oncology. They will be expected to publish in peer reviewed journals. They will NOT have any on-call commitments and have 2 days per week protected for research. They will also gain experience in regular 2 week wait, Gynaecology Oncology clinics, MDT and weekly theatre sessions.

Annual leave and study leave are covered prospectively. As a valued member of the team you will be included in the educational and training activities of the unit and encouraged to contribute to the teaching of nurses, and other junior doctors.

St Michael's Hospital is a large teaching hospital and is part of University Hospital Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust with close linked with the University of Bristol.

This post has no on-call commitment.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will have a weekly timetable including 2WW clinics, potentially colposcopy is appropriate. The post-holder will form part of the weekly MDT meeting and following MDT clinic, and will support weekly theatre sessions - some on the surgical robot.

The post-holder will be an excellent communicator, will be compassionate, and will need to convey sensitive and sometimes distressing news to patients on a regular basis. The post-holder will form strong relationships with other members of the team, and will be a supportive and reliable presence to junior members of staff (medical, nursing).

The post-holder will play a significant part in the delivery of direct clinical care to gynaecology oncology patients. There is NO ON-CALL commitment. Work will include ward work, clinic, theatre operating, and participation in management of the Gynaecology Emergency Clinic as required. The post-holder is expected to follow protocols and work in line with the Clinical Governing Body and Trust standards guidelines.

The post-holder will participate in the organisation and planning of day to day clinical work at St Michael's Hospital. The post-holder should be able to demonstrate a track record of planning and facilitating audit.
