Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a well-motivated, experienced doctor to join our gastroenterology team as a Clinical Fellow in a post comprising.
Training entirely identical to that of our Gastroenterology Specialty Registrar but lacking only a training number.
Assisting a committed individual to become independent in UGI endoscopy.
Assisting in general gastroenterology outpatient clinics.
Most doctors who have previously held this post have gone on to secure a NTN or, if not, an appointment for training. Most are now consultants here or abroad with national experts numbering amongst them.
We are looking for someone to cover this post on a 1 to 2 year fixed term position.
The Department of Medicine comprises of consultants with special interests in respiratory medicine, cardiology, gastroenterology, diabetes and endocrinology, and care of the elderly. Whilst this post is not an approved training post it is recognised by the Royal College of Physicians of London for the MRCP (UK) examinations.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will attend regular training lists in endoscopy, enjoy educationally supervised outpatient clinics besides taking a lead in assessing in-hospital referrals and, with the registrar and senior clinical fellow, jointly managing a team currently made up of
1 x Physician's Associate; 3 x F1 doctors; 1x F2 doctor; 1 x GPST (+/- 1x IMT1) who staff the 26 bedded gastroenterology ward.
The general medical component of the job involves inclusion on a full shift rota with the Specialty Registrars. This is currently run over a 16-week period and includes long days on-call, nights, twilights and weekend discharge shifts.
