An exciting opportunity has arisen at the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre (BHOC) for a Clinical Research Fellow in Oncology. The postholder will gain comprehensive experience in the management of breast and urological cancers including systemic therapies in a large regional oncology centre. They will also be exposed to the experience of running Investigator-led studies (ILS) including multi-centre studies across the UK.

Clinical Oncology applicants will have the opportunity to train in brachytherapy, stereotactic radiotherapy and use of radio-isotopes. There will also be the opportunity for individual research.

This post is suitable for those training in oncology who want to take an out of programme experience (OOPE). This position is for up to 2 years and is full time.

Main duties of the job

This post is ideally suitable for trainees in Medical/Clinical Oncology who wish to incorporate a formal research aspect in their oncological specialisation. The post is suitable for applicants who are aspiring to join the Clinical/ Medical Oncology training programme ST1-ST5 Level or post CCT candidates. The responsibilities of the post will be tailored accordingly. The post will give the opportunity to gain valuable experience in clinical work as well as exposure to oncology clinical trials. The post holder will:

1. Undertake Urological and Breast Cancer clinical management with regular weekly clinics2. Assessment of patients who attend as outpatients for radiotherapy and SACT providing cover for incidental medical problems between clinical reviews 3. Provide inpatient supervision as required including helping on the BHOC Acute Care (acute oncology) assessment unit.4. Attend Urology Complex Case Meeting.5. Assist in the recruitment and supervision of patients in clinical trials6. Gain exposure to radiotherapy including planning and brachytherapy

  • At least 24 months experience of general medicine at minimum CT1 (or equivalent level)
