Job summary
The successful applicant will join a dynamic and welcoming multidisciplinary team providing inpatient and outpatient care for patients at Bristol Adult CF Centre, the NHS England-commissioned specialist centre for around 300 adults with CF in the Severn region based at Bristol Royal Infirmary. The post provides excellent training and experience in CF and respiratory medicine, whilst offering experience in clinical microbiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology/hepatology and palliative care, and developing skills in communication and MDT working. The postholder will actively participate in CF research as part of the CF Clinical Trials Accelerator Programme (CTPA). The post also includes opportunities to develop and contribute to continuing education, professional development and audit. The post would ideally suit applicants who intend to pursue a career in respiratory medicine and/or cystic fibrosis but may also suit those interested in careers to other specialties such as general practice, medical microbiology, gastroenterology or endocrinology.
Main duties of the job
No specialist experience or knowledge of cystic fibrosis medicine is required - training is provided on the job. The CF Fellow works with a rotational respiratory specialist registrar. The service is led by three highly engaged and available consultants, and the job offers the chance to work in a genuinely multidisciplinary environment. The post is open to post-Foundation training doctors of any grade - it has been held in the past by post-F2, post-CMT and post-CCT (pre-consultant) grade doctors and responsibilities will be tailored to the individual. The post involves working with multiple NHS services across primary, secondary and tertiary care and for this reason, applications will only be considered from those with at least 12 months experience of working in the NHS as a doctor; applicants not meeting this requirement will not be shortlisted. The hours of work are 9am-5pm Monday-Friday. On call is not part of the post; options for locum out of hours work are available as long as they do not impact the core hours of the post. The post is for 12 months but we welcome applicants looking for less than this.
