Senior Fellow in Cardiac Anaesthesia & Critical Care
We seek to appoint a senior fellow in Adult Cardiac Anaesthesia & Critical Care for a period of 12 months with a start date of November 2025 onwards.
This post is suitable for stage 3 anaesthesia trainees seeking an SIA (Special Interest Area) in Cardiac Anaesthesia ,as well as those keen to gain post CCT experience in cardiac anaesthesia to prepare them for a consultant post in cardiac anaesthesia and critical care.
This post is based in the Bristol Heart Institute. The Bristol Heart Institute is a large regional cardiac centre offering adult cardiac surgery, ACHD surgery, a developing major aortic service, as well as an extensive cardiac cath lab service including rapidly expanding TAVI and edge to edge valve repair programmes.
This post does not have educational approval from the Postgraduate Dean and does not carry a National Training Number.
Where equivalent qualifications or experience are being offered, it is essential that candidates provide confirmation of this from the relevant College or Faculty in the United Kingdom and attach confirmation to your application.
Please note that GMC registration (with a licence to practice) and right to work in the UK are essential for this role. Successful applicants will already have GMC registration.
Main duties of the job
The post offers wide exposure to all types of acquired adult and congenital cardiac disease with the exception of cardiac transplantation. There is close involvement with the diagnosis and surgical or other interventional management of cardiac disease. There are considerable opportunities for perioperative anaesthetic and intensive care management, including the use of perioperative transoesophageal echocardiography, pulmonary artery catheterisation, nitric oxide, aortic balloon counter pulsation, haemofiltration and the insertion of percutaneous tracheostomies.
