Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to join Psychological Health Services and Paediatric Neuropsychology within the division of Women's and Children's Services at UHBW.

We are looking for a highly motivated professional to fill the role of Assistant Psychologist with a focus on research. The post holder will work as part of a growing multi-disciplinary team of administrators, clinicians and research staff, supporting the delivery of research.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will assist qualified psychologists in the delivery of research within Psychological Health Services and Paediatric Neuropsychology team.

This position will involve a mixture of direct work with research staff, clinicians and patients, as well as non-patient facing tasks.

Duties will include:

  • the administration and scoring of standardised psychometric assessments
  • the collection and inputting of clinical outcome data
  • dissemination of psychosocial information
  • maintaining databases
  • analysing data
  • contributing to research development and research.

The post holder will work according to plans agreed by their supervisors and within the overall framework of team policies and procedures. The post holder will be encouraged to participate in local and national assistant psychologists' support and training activities.

Qualifications and Training

  • 1st or Upper 2nd Honours degree in Psychology with graduate basis for registration to the British Psychological Society (BPS).

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Relevant experience working/volunteering in health, care or education settings with children or adults
  • Relevant experience working in or undertaking research
  • To have experience of and to be comfortable and confident communicating with individuals from a range of cultural backgrounds, including those who do not speak English as a first language
  • High level of computer literacy and be familiar and competent in the use of word processing, database, power point and statistical packages for the social sciences, including Microsoft Excel and SPSS

  • Experience of using qualitative interviewing methods
  • Experience of working within multidisciplinary teams

Aptitudes

Essential

  • Ability to quickly learn and assimilate new skills and knowledge, so that they can be relied upon to carry out technical and basic clinical tasks effectively, without direct supervision once training is complete
  • Good observational skills in order to note and record relevant behavioural data that may have an impact on interpretation of test data
  • Interest and motivation to work in clinical psychology and/or neuropsychology
