Job summary
The Vascular Science Unit at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston (UHBW) are looking for a Clinical Vascular Scientist to cover an 18 month maternity period. Applications are invited from those with accreditation from the College and Society for Clinical Vascular Science (CSVS) or HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist in Vascular Science.
We are a team of seven clinical vascular scientists, one STP trainee and one vascular science practitioner apprentice working with a team of three scientific support associates. We are based at the Bristol Royal Infirmary, where we have five air-conditioned examination rooms, a large office, a study room, a changing room and a social/kitchen area. This job will include working across both our Bristol Royal Infirmary and Weston General Hospital sites. We provide an adult's and children's vascular science service Monday to Friday. Main duties of the job
- Perform a full range of vascular diagnostic and surveillance ultrasound duplex scans including carotid, upper and lower limb arterial and venous, true and false aneurysms, temporal artery, thoracic outlet, bypass graft and stent surveillance, endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR), fistula scans
- Perform ankle-brachial pressure index (ABPI) and toe-brachial index (TBI) assessment
- Independently interpret and report results using specialised vascular knowledge, producing an overall diagnosis and identify and act on incidental and/or urgent findings appropriately
- Provide direct teaching, training and supervision to STP and vascular practitioner trainees
- Actively participate in and support colleagues in clinical research, audit, innovation and service evaluation projects
- Lead the day to day running of the department, prioritising workload, supervising junior staff, work allocation, overseeing the appointment diary, and liaising with colleagues from all disciplines
