Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Physiotherapist to join our Paediatric Respiratory team. This fixed term post will work alongside an experienced Band 8a to provide highly specialist physiotherapy for children presenting with complex respiratory needs, in outpatient settings or outside of the hospital setting.

Community patients with complex respiratory compromise will be managed by the post holder. This will involve formation and review of airway clearance plans, including prescription of specialist respiratory equipment such as cough assists. The post holder will provide education on airway clearance plans to qualified and unqualified individuals based in a variety of locations. The successful candidate will need previous experience of paediatric respiratory care, education and excellent communication skills. Through strong working relationships with patients and families the post holder will achieve excellent job satisfaction, positively impacting the child's quality of life and 24 hour a day care. They will be supported by a large proactive paediatric respiratory team and work closely with respiratory consultants and the neuromuscular teams.

The successful candidate will participate in a 24 hour emergency oncall rota to support inpatients at BRHC and will have opportunity to work alongside our respiratory physiotherapists on the wards.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will already be a skilled paediatric clinician with previous or transferrable skills at Band 6 or above. They will be naturally empathetic, demonstrating high level communication skills to facilitate close working relationships with both patients and colleagues.

  • To provide a highly specialised service that includes the assessment, treatment and management of children with a wide range of medical conditions, presenting with complex respiratory needs. Primarily for children requiring assisted ventilation or respiratory adjuncts to aid secretion clearance and those who need MDT care plans.
  • To act as a source of expertise and demonstrate advanced knowledge and experience in the highly skilled management of children with these conditions
  • To provide specialist advice to other members of the multi-disciplinary team and to provide clinical education and training to others within the Trust and externally, across the South West region. This will include the development of a teaching programme for carers/parents and staff in a range of community settings.
