Senior Clinical Fellow in Medical Education (Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time Senior Clinical Fellow post at St Michaels Hospital, University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust.

The post is for 12 months, commencing in August 2025 (negotiable).

St Michael's Hospital is a large teaching hospital closely linked with the University of Bristol. The post-holder will work within the Obstetrics & Gynaecology teams at St Michael's, supported by a friendly and cohesive consultant team. This post is ideal for those wishing to gain additional experience in medical education outside the speciality training programme. The resident will work closely with the University of Bristol Reproductive Health and Care of the Newborn (RHCN) lead Dr Melanie Griffin, and will take an active part in the planning, development and assessment of undergraduate education in obstetrics and gynaecology. They will have opportunity to further develop their career in education in order to gain a higher qualification (Diploma or Masters) in Medical Education. The University of Bristol fees for undertaking a higher qualification will be waived by the university for this post.

The post will provide excellent experience for someone wishing to consolidate their previous experience and training outside the specialty training programme.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will work within the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department and have dedicated time within their special interest area of Medical Education (1 full day per 2 weeks). The post-holder will work within the Obstetrics & Gynaecology teams at St Michael's, supported by a friendly and cohesive consultant team. This post is ideal for those wishing to gain additional experience in medical education outside the speciality training programme. The post holder will be expected to contribute to the full shift on-call rota (3rd on call), including Obstetrics and Emergency Gynaecology Cover, so the post is restricted to ST6-7 level only.

Annual leave and study leave are covered prospectively. As a valued member of the team you will be included in the educational and training activities of the unit and encouraged to contribute to the teaching of nurses, midwives and other residents.
