Job summary
Applications are invited for the full time post of Clinical Fellow in Adult Sleep and Home Ventilation for a 12 month fixed term period. The successful applicant will join a dynamic, large and welcoming multidisciplinary (MDT) team to provide care for patients at the Bristol Sleep and Home Ventilation Unit, a tertiary referral centre for sleep and non-invasive ventilation (NIV) based at Bristol Royal Infirmary. The post provides excellent training and experience in sleep and NIV as a subspecialty of respiratory medicine, in both the outpatient and inpatient setting, whilst developing skills in communication and MDT working. The post would ideally suit applicants already in specialist respiratory training who wish to develop a subspecialty interest in sleep and NIV, but those intending to pursue a career in respiratory medicine would also be welcomed.
The post holder will be encouraged to take part in the department's active research and audit programme, using timetabled study time, with the expectation of publishing and presenting regionally, nationally and internationally. We are currently recruiting patients to an NIHR-funded randomised controlled trial in sleep apnoea, and this role offers the exciting opportunity to lead the recruitment and day-to-day running of the study. the post also includes responsibilities to develop and contribute to continuing education, professional development and audit.
Main duties of the job
Clinical
The post holder will show commitment to the Sleep and NIV Service in helping to ensure that the best clinical care is delivered in an MDT setting. The post holder will:
- Review patients in sleep and NIV clinics, alongside the Consultant and MDT
- Undergo training in reporting and interpretation of full and semi-polysomnograms
- Undertake inpatient reviews of home NIV patients, under consultant supervision
- Participate in weekly sleep and NIV MDT meetings, and monthly governance meetings
- Contribute to training of junior medical staff as appropriate
- Carry out teaching duties as appropriate
- Participate in service development and improvement through commitment to clinical governance
- Take part in and lead as appropriate, team, departmental and regional audits.
- Be encouraged to carry out a research project during the post
- Comply with GMC guidance on Good Medical Practice
