Job summary

The department of Trauma and Orthopaedics at Bristol Royal Infirmary provides a general and specialist service for Bristol and the local surrounding areas. The department consists of 14 Orthopaedic Consultants who all cover general trauma on-call but provide specialist surgery in their chosen area.

We are looking for a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with an Interest in Foot and Ankle Surgery and Trauma.

Elective operating will be performed at Southmead hospital and South Bristol Community Hospital. The post Holder will contribute to a 1 in 12 on call rota for Trauma at the Bristol Royal Infirmary. Out patient clinics will also be performed at Bristol Royal Infirmary.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be expected to undertake general and fracture/acute clinics, including a commitment to the Virtual Fracture Clinic. The successful applicant will have a component of their job plan dedicated to ward rounds and junior clinical supervision/on-ward teaching. In addition, the post-holder will have a commitment to general trauma lists, elective operating, and an on-call commitment as per the weekly team duties and 1 in 12 weekends with expected flexibility due to rota reorganisation. The job plan will be split 8.5 DCC and 1.5 SPA.

The foot and ankle service currently consists of 1 dedicated foot and ankle surgeon with close working relationships with the foot and ankle team at Southmead Hospital (2 F&A consultant surgeons and 1 surgical podiatrist) at North Bristol Trust, with cross city MDT meetings on a regular basis. There are 2 foot and ankle surgeons at Weston General Hospital. Complex foot and ankle trauma is managed between the foot and ankle service and the limb reconstruction unit with a weekly MDT for complex trauma beyond the daily trauma meetings. The service provides a tertiary referral service for limb reconstruction and complex trauma.
