Main duties of the job
Within this role, you willsupport the delivery of a specialist stroke rehabilitation service and form part of the larger Stroke Pathway within the Medicine Division of Adult Therapy Services at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston.
The successful applicant will, hold their own caseload under the supervision of the registered therapists, work closely with the stroke multi-disciplinary team and mentor junior colleagues.

Qualifications and Training
Essential
- Formal qualification in stroke, or a related field, equivalent to NVQ level 3
Desirable
- Training in one or more approaches to stroke rehabilitation
- Anatomy and physiology knowledge to understand stroke disease and its effects and outcomes for patients - learnt on the job or formal training equivalent to NVQ level 3
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
- Previous experience as a Therapy Technician
- Experience of working without direct supervision
- Experience in leading small groups as well as 1:1 sessions
Desirable
- Experience of carrying out assessment and rehabilitation techniques with patients, applying the principles of one or more approaches to stroke rehabilitation
- Experience of working with patients recovering from stroke on an acute stroke unit
Aptitudes
Essential
- Understanding of principles of rehabilitation as opposed to caring
- Awareness of the needed for systems and organisation e.g. IT, equipment monitoring
- Aware of the need to maintain confidentiality
- Demonstrate a flexible approach to work demands

- Basic anatomy and physiology knowledge of CNS
- Demonstrate technical/manual skills to carry out therapeutic techniques with patients

- Ability to use own initiative within role
- Demonstrate an awareness to and sensitivity to other team members in keeping with the Trust values

- Motivated to learn and ability to problem solve
