Job summary

The Paediatric Neuropsychology Service provides psychological assessment and support for patients undergoing treatment for neurological injury or illness across University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust. The service works with both in- and outpatients and contributes to service development and research projects.

The Paediatric Neuropsychology Service is looking for an enthusiastic, ambitious and professional Assistant Psychologists to join the team. The post holder is expected to be eligible for membership of the British Psychological Society at Graduate Basis for Registration having achieved either a 2:1 honours degree, or higher, in psychology or having completed a British Psychological Society accredited psychology conversion course.

The post holder will assist qualified psychologists in the delivery of psychological services within both inpatient and outpatient services within the Neuropsychology Service. The positions will involve a mixture of direct work with patients and non-patient facing tasks. Duties will include the administration and scoring of standardised psychometric assessments, the collection and inputting of clinical outcome data, dissemination of psychosocial information, maintaining databases, analysing data and contributing to research.

Main duties of the job

This post is part of a Widening Access Scheme and applicants who meet the essential criteria for the post but may not yet have clinical experience as an assistant psychologist or similar post are encouraged to apply.

This post is initially fixed term until the end of March 2025, however, there is scope for posts to be extended beyond this. Due to the nature of the role, the post-holder will be based within Bristol Royal Hospital for Children with limited opportunity for home-working.

The post holders are expected to be eligible for membership of the British Psychological Society at Graduate Basis for Registration having achieved either a 2:1 honours degree, or higher, in psychology or having completed a British Psychological Society accredited psychology conversion course.

  • To demonstrate skills in interpersonal interaction and communication to develop rapport with patients of varying ages, levels of cognitive function and emotional stability

  • Good organisational, time management and task management skills in order to respond to the demands of the post

Knowledge and Experience

  • High level of computer literacy and be familiar and competent in the use of word processing, database, power point and statistical packages for the social sciences, including Microsoft Excel and SPSS
