Job summary
Provide an orthodontic service implementing care plans and performing orthodontic procedures to a written prescription within scope of practice.
Provide a contribution to the clinical management of patients requiring orthodontic treatment working in collaboration with Orthodontic Consultants and multidisciplinary professionals in order to improve patient care.
Facilitate and participate in audit and quality assurance programme, and promote evidence based practice.
Responsible for the teaching, mentoring and assessment of student dental nurses and professional staff therefore promoting a learning culture.
Main duties of the job
Communication and Relationship Skills:
- Communicate in a timely and courteous manner with all grades of staff, patients and theirrelatives/carers.
- Provide and receive highly complex, sensitive information requiring tact and persuasive skills, where there may be barriers to acceptance which need to be overcome using developed interpersonal communication skill such as would be required in communicating bad news
Analytical Tasks:
- Direct fundamental and advanced Orthodontic Therapy duties within Trust policies, procedures and guidelines reporting to Orthodontic Consultant and providing feedback on any issues or concerns.
- Ensure patients meet oral health standards for ongoing treatment.
- Discuss and inform patients of the indications for ongoing treatment.
- Discuss risks, benefits of treatment and possible additional procedures required
