Following the approval of the Digital Strategy we will be undertaking an ambitious programme of work to deliver a range of state-of-the-art clinical IT solutions across the Trust to fully digitize our patient records and provide clinical staff with fast, simple and controlled access to patient data. This will be supported by a modern fit for purpose infrastructure and links to our Group Hospital partner, North Bristol Trust.
UHBW is on the hunt for Network Officer to join our team within Digital Services reporting to the Trust Network Manager, you will be responsible for the configuration, installation and maintenance of Network Equipment that will underpin these clinical solutions across all UHBW sites.
Work will be mainly focused around network support and Installation, both wired and wireless, so experience with all Cisco hardware and configuration is expected, along with knowledge of Palo Alto Firewall and VPN products.
You will be part of an on-call rota providing Emergency on-site Network Support out of hours, so access to transport will be essential.
Main duties of the job
The installation of Switches, Routers, Firewalls and Wireless Infrastructure across the Trust network.
The utilisation and application of TCP/IP, Spanning Tree and Wireless 802.11 network protocols when installing network devices.
Responsible for the patching of UTP and fibre optic cables, to relevant International standards and regulations.
Ensure that all network configurations and installations are secure and comply with industry best practice and appropriate security standards.
Carry out firmware updates when required.
Provide advice where appropriate to end users.
Troubleshoot issues around the Trust relating to network problems, using research etc., from various sources to document solutions.
Diagnose and resolve problems relating to Switches, Routers, , , Firewalls and Wireless network problems as they are reported to the Digital Services Service Desk.
Liaise with the Service Desk to provide updates and close calls when satisfactorily completed in a timely fashion.
Assist in the maintenance/configuration of the Trusts VPN's and remote access solutions. Offering advice and help to non-technical end users.

Essential
- A working knowledge of LAN and WAN communication protocols including TCP/IP
- An understanding of configuring network devices including firewalls
- A working knowledge of UTP and fibre optic cable installations and a proven ability to patch neatly
- A good working knowledge of the Data Protection Act and GDPR
- Demonstrable experience in an IT environment, preferably networking
- Experience of managing the deployment of complex IT solutions
