Job summary

We are delighted to invite applications for a Locum Consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist to join an enthusiastic and dynamic multidisciplinary paediatric Gastroenterology team as soon as possible. We provide comprehensive high quality tertiary Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition service across the South West of England.

We are looking for motivated and enthusiastic colleague to join a current team of 6 consultants (5.7 WTE). This is to cover long term sickness at least for 6 months and is for 0.7 WTE but opportunities for additional paid work. The applicants must possess CCT or be within 6 months of completing the CCT or equivalent in general paediatrics. They should have at least 2 years sub-specialty training in paediatric gastroenterology, hepatology & nutrition in an approved institution and preferably on or eligible for GMC sub-speciality register for Paediatric Gastroenterology.

The service is in Bristol Royal Hospital for Children which is a part of the University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW). It consists of a variety of hospitals predominantly on a single campus close to the city center and the University of Bristol. The majority of clinical specialties are represented in the hospitals of the Trust which serves a catchment population of over 1 million children region wide.

Main duties of the job

This is a Locum Consultant post in Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition (PGHN) to join a cohesive and progressive team which provide comprehensive high quality tertiary service to the region to cover for long term sickness.

The applicant should have accredited training in paediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition and ideally competent in gastrointestinal endoscopy. They should demonstrate acumen in clinical skills, teaching and research in addition to good communication, teamwork, governance, management and leadership skills which will be assessed in application and interview.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing inpatient, outpatient, day case and ambulatory care to children referred to the service. They will be named lead consultant for patients under their care and are expected to comply with relevant Trust policies relating to the administration of high quality patient care. This is provided in a supportive and accessible environment within the department and the division through Clinical Lead, Lead for Paediatric Medicine and Clinical Chair.
