Job summary

The appointment is for a substantive 10 PA Consultant Gynaecologist and Specialist in Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology (PAG). The post is based at St Michael's Hospital.

The appointee will be an experienced PAG clinician who has completed the RCOG ATSM in Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology. Additional ATSMs complementary to the existing department would be welcomed.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate as a full team-member of the Tertiary referral PAG service, including contributing to audit and research in the service. The post-holder will provide elective inpatient and outpatient care to patients referred with benign gynaecological conditions, including clinics and operating.This will also encompass ensuring timely diagnostic pathways for women with suspected cancer in liaison with the cancer diagnosis tracking team. The post-holder will also perform outpatient hysteroscopy.

The post includes general gynaecology clinics, and also outpatient hysteroscopy clinics. Should the post-holder have an ATSM in Early Pregnancy, opportunities to work within the Early Pregnancy Service may exist[JW1]. The post has an emergency gynaecology session each week supporting the ward. There is a non-resident (1 in 13) on call covering gynaecology only.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be expected to provide elective inpatient and outpatient care to patients referred with benign gynaecological conditions. This will also encompass ensuring timely diagnostic pathways for women with suspected cancer in liaison with the cancer diagnosis tracking team. With the support of the gynaecology oncology team, this may include treatment of early-stage endometrial cancers. In addition, successful candidate will also provide acute gynaecological care to patients attending St Michael's Hospital in conjunction with the current consultants. He / she should have experience at consultant level in general gynaecological surgery covering both elective and emergency procedures.

  • Full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) or eligible for specialist registration within 6 monthso
