Job summary

To work according to the Nursing and Midwifery Code of Professional Conduct and relevant professional guidelines to provide a high standard of patient care using a flexible patient centred care approach.

Radiology department at the Bristol Royal Infirmary Hospital is looking for a band 5 Radiology Nurse on a full time post to support the team in our observation area, admission of patients undergoing interventional procedures and assisting Interventional Radiologists. The successful candidate could upskill to manage airways of sedated patients undergoing certain Interventional procedures.

Post holder will work alongside with the ward sister, radiology nurses and multidisciplinary team members in monitoring and maintaining policies, standards of nursing, patients care and staff development, as part of the perioperative team

Provide high quality nursing care showing evidence of the specialist skills and knowledge that will enable you to deliver to patients pre, peri and post diagnostic and interventional radiology procedures.

Should be able to liaise and support the holistic multidisciplinary team led Radiology Service to ensure care is provided in a co-ordinated and collaborative manner.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide individualized holistic care to in-patient and out-patient interventional radiology patients by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating their care needs.
  • Assist in the assessment of patient's suitability to undergo specific diagnostic and interventional procedures.
  • Provide physical, verbal and psychological support to patients undergoing diagnostics and interventional radiology procedures.
  • To perform venepuncture and cannulation as required.
  • Provide patient handover to the nursing team and/or multidisciplinary team as required.
  • To give sedation safely to patient undergoing to a certain interventional procedure after having the course and competency.
  • The post holder is expected to participate in the on-call service (following an appropriate training)

  • RN (NMC registered) / or NVQ 3 Operating department Practice pre2004 or Diploma in Higher Education Operating Department Practice post 2004
  • Current NMC registration / or Council registration for ODPs
  • Work towards relevant University accredited post basic study programmes e.g. Interventional Radiology Course

Knowledge and Experience
