The Department of General Anaesthesia sits within the Division of Surgery; however the wider anaesthesia service bridges four clinical divisions of UHBW: Surgery (general anaesthesia and critical care), Specialised Services (cardiac anaesthesia), Women's and Children's (paediatric and obstetric anaesthesia) and Weston Business Unit. The Department of Anaesthesia is seeking one Locum Consultant in General Anaesthesia to join the team based at Bristol Royal Infirmary for 6 months. The post will be offered at 10 PAs. The successful candidate will join the team in supporting a busy and high quality service providing general anaesthesia, with the support of and close work with the wider department across all UHBW sites.
Main duties of the job
The role will be based at Bristol Royal Infirmary, and will support the provision of general anaesthesia services for a variety of specialties, including Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Trauma & Orthopaedics, Gynaecology and Urology. There may be opportunity to work across the UHBW sites. In addition to daytime sessions, the appointee will participate in the weekend on-call rota (1:7) and in the evening session (approx. 1:10) covering emergency operations until 20:00 every day. The Department of Anaesthesia supports the pre-operative assessment service, and as such the appointee will contribute to this area. As UHBW is a teaching trust with close links to the University of Bristol; the appointee will be committed to delivering excellent teaching and training.
