Cardiac Physiology/Midwifery - Congenital Developmental Post (Cardiology Sonography)

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our innovative team and gain advanced congenital cardiology fetal experience.

It is anticipated that this role will contribute to our fetal imaging service however consideration will also be given to less experienced candidates who have a demonstrable interest in gaining an in depth knowledge of congenital heart disease. This post provides opportunity to be involved in cutting edge congenital heart disease, as well as helping to shape the future of cardiac services across the South West.

Main duties of the job

Main duties of the job

This post is focused on giving an individual opportunity to learn new skills and develop in their career. Duties will focus on participating or developing in the following key areas;

  • Take an active role to support the day to day management of this highly specialised clinical area (Fetal Cardiology), ensuring an effective and efficient tertiary service
  • Be a competent reporting independent practitioner and be able to perform the full range of ultrasound techniques required for a fetal scan. Performing and reporting fetal cardiology ultrasound scans (unsupervised) to accepted national standards.
  • Monitor and contribute to budget constraints
  • Responsible for receipting of medical products and equipment for the department. Responsible for the stock control within the section.
  • Communicate with medical representatives regarding the development, maintenance and upkeep of the section
  • Deputise for other sectional managers where necessary
  • Provide clinical and professional advice to patients, parents/carers and colleagues
  • Provide advice, teach, and be responsible for clinical supervision of other staff and students
  • Implement, manage, evaluate, maintain and update protocols with the section
  • Actively participate and develop the quality control assurances for the service
  • Actively engage and develop the research and audit portfolio of the service

The Bristol Royal Hospital for Children is a dedicated paediatric centre of excellence, catering for all ages from fetus, to young adults. The service provides a comprehensive range of congenital cardiac investigations, interventions and cardiac surgery to the South West of England and South Wales. Investigations performed by the service include but not limited to; physiologist led ETT, CPET, HUTT, ambulatory monitoring, Device implants and follow-up, and a full range of interventional congenital procedures. Our echocardiography service includes Transthoracic Echocardiography, Stress Echocardiography, TOE, and Fetal Sonography which is gaining an international reputation. We also have close links with our research department which is very active in research and has an international reputation for drug trials and sports exercise programs in CHD. The service supports diagnostic testing for a number of active trials.

  • Diploma in Medical Ultrasound or equivalent
  • State registration (NMC, RCCP, HCPC etc), or intention thereof

Desirable

  • BSc /MSc Cardiology, PTP / STP or equivalent
  • BSE / Euroecho (or actively working towards

Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience of a full range of advanced ultrasound techniques
