Job summary

The General Paediatric team at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust are looking to appoint a Consultant in Acute and General Paediatrics to work across sites in our dedicated children's unit in Weston and Bristol Children's Hospital.

The position is a newly created full-time post and complements the existing general paediatric team and helps further develop our acute Paediatric services in Weston and the safeguarding team across the region. Whilst this is advertised as a full-time post, candidates wishing to be considered for a position with fewer sessions are welcome to apply.

The post-holder will join 3 Consultants primarily based in Weston and with consultant colleagues solely based in Bristol, to provide a range of Child Health Services within a fully integrated organisation. Applicants should have CCT or equivalent in General Paediatrics or be within six months of achieving this at the date of interview or be listed on the GMC's specialist register.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will deliver acute short stay assessment/ambulatory care shifts at Weston between the hours of 8.00-22.00. The day is divided in two shifts, early and late, with a handover at 15.00. The early shift tends to be mostly ambulatory care, short stay assessment and clinical investigations. The late shift has more emphasis on emergency care. The successful candidate will also deliver rapid access clinics and routine general paediatric clinics (Weston/BRHC). The consultants all contribute to the paediatric support service for primary care colleagues by holding a referral mobile phone for primary care colleagues and encouraging electronic advice and guidance The postholder is very welcome is bring expertise to the team and focus some of their clinics on their subspeciality.

Alongside their role within the Seashore centre, one of the successful applicants will also form part of a newly created team of duty paediatric safeguarding consultants, supported by a dynamic team of named doctors, specialist safeguarding nurses and administrators within UHBW.
