Job summary
The Parenteral Services Unit (PSU) of the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre (BHOC) are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Band 4/5 Pharmacy Technician or Science Manufacturing Technician, who wishes to develop their technical expertise while working in our busy aseptic unit. The unit provides cytotoxic chemotherapy treatments and Parenteral Nutrition to the BHOC, St. Michael's Hospital and the Bristol Royal Children's Hospital.
Good communication & interpersonal skills are essential and you must be motivated, flexible, adaptable and able to work well in a team. Full training in departmental procedures will be given and the successful candidate will train towards gaining the South West pre and in-process Checking Accreditation if not already achieved.
Main duties of the job
- Working in a team of Band 4 and 5 Pharmacy Technicians, Science Manufacturing Technicians, and Band 3 Pharmacy Assistants, to assist in the provision of the aseptic preparation service.
- Providing the safe and efficient provision of aseptic chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition products to patients in the Trust.
- Performing duties according to the rota system, reporting to the senior pharmacy technician(s) responsible for the workload in their area.
- Training and validating in duties such as aseptic dispensing of products, and performing pre and in-process checks.
- Carrying out all activities in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures of the Unit and in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practice.
- Being part of the weekend Emergency Chemotherapy Service rota for the department, once trained.
NB:
Appointment or progression to Band 5 is dependent on both the following criteria:
- Completion of the Science Manufacturing Technician qualification including receipt of the Level 3 Diploma in the Principles of Aseptic Pharmaceuticals and;
- Accreditation to perform pre- and in-process checking (PIPC) in the relevant areas.
