Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Adult Therapy Services Department. We are a dynamic department and value all members of our team to help provide high standard quality care.

Therapy Technicians work alongside Occupational Therapists & Physiotherapists. For the Trauma and Orthopaedics specialty this is largely based in the inpatient/ward environment though we do run some outpatient classes in the gym.

The successful candidate will support the delivery of effective treatment and rehabilitation plans to enable patients to recover from illness, injury or surgery and be safely discharged from hospital.

We are looking for someone who is empathetic, positive and motivational with a real passion for healthcare and rehabilitation. When working in an inpatient setting, Therapy Technicians will contribute to a weekend service (one weekend every 4 weeks, with compensatory days off in the week) and a bank holiday service (2 bank holidays per year). A flexible approach to working is therefore essential.

The post currently being recruited is situated at the Bristol Royal Infirmary but the post holder may be required to work across any of the UHBW sites.

Main duties of the job

The patient group we care for is wide and varied, ranging from young adults to the frail and elderly. Some of our patient groups include general adult trauma, elderly trauma, major trauma and limb reconstruction. Many have acute medical needs and/or have just had surgery. A large proportion of our patients have existing physical or mental health conditions. As part of this role, there is an expectation that you will frequently participate in some aspects of patients' personal care, close physical contact with patients and manual handling.

There will be some administrative tasks as part of the role. The post holder will need to be organised and logical. They will need to be computer literate and also be able to document written records. They will be able to follow instructions, carry out tasks independently, demonstrate initiative and work closely with colleagues.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, experience of working as part of a team, and great time management skills. Having worked with patients in the NHS or a rehabilitation setting before would be of an advantage but we invite you to bring any transferable skills from previous experiences to the role. Training and staff appraisal systems are in operation to help you develop to meet the demands of the post, but it is essential that you have a basic understanding of this role and the physiotherapy / occupational therapy professions. We actively support continued professional development.
