Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Pharmacy Procurement and Contracts Manager to join the UHBW pharmacy team.
The Pharmacy Procurement Manager at UHBW will play a pivotal role in managing the procurement process efficiently and effectively to support the organisation's mission of providing exceptional care to patients and their families.
This role is responsible for sourcing goods and services, negotiating contracts, and managing relationships with third-party providers. The Procurement Manager also ensures compliance with procurement policies and procedures, monitors contract performance, and identifies opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
Through effective procurement and contract management, the right individual will make a tangible difference to our ability to expand our care and patient services.
Main duties of the job
- To manage develop and implement local and regional purchasing contracts of pharmaceuticals to provide a cost-effective service on behalf of the directorates within University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust.
- To ensure procurement practices align with the principals of the Purchasing for Safety agenda, in collaboration with the Medicines Safety Officer and clinical leads.
- To manage the activity of the Stores and Procurement teams.
- To be the point of contact for the Pharmacy Department as the subject matter expert for pharmacy procurement activity and activity detailed in the job description.

Qualifications and Training
Essential
- NVQ Level 4 in Management or equivalent knowledge and experience in Pharmacy management
- Attained or willing to work towards a Level 5 Chartered institute of procurement and supply
- Postgraduate level qualification in relevant subject (e.g. business administration) or equivalent relevant experience in management to Master's Level
- Mandatory CPD to maintain fitness to practice
- Willing to undertake a Cogent gold accredited Responsible Person training course and MHRA interview to be RP for UHBW WDA licence
Desirable
- Formal project management qualification (e.g.PRINCE2)
Knowledge & Experience
Essential
- Registered with General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Formal Management Qualification or equivalent significant experience
- Up to date with the latest European and UK legislation e.g. OJEU
- Understanding of the commercial mechanics of the NHS, or transferable knowledge from the private sector
- Experience of recruitment, managing and developing staff
- Experience of writing and developing procedures
- Experience of motivating staff, conducting appraisals and giving feedback
Desirable
- Experience of financial management
- Extensive knowledge and experience of wholesale dealing and good distribution practice (GDP) requirements, with a significant part of this experience in hospital pharmacy
- Extensive experience of undertaking audit and quality management systems
- Experience of the implementation of complex commercial contracts from tender through to mobilisation and commissioning, and contract management
