Job summary

We are seeking to recruit one highly motivated and clinically focussed individual to work as a 10PA substantive Paediatric Emergency Medicine Consultant. This post will bring the consultant establishment to 12.05 FTE.

The Trust has both Adult and Paediatric Emergency Departments in the Bristol Royal Infirmary and Bristol Royal Children's Hospital. The appointee will be working within the Children's Emergency Department which is based in Bristol Royal Children's Hospital.

They will join a consultant team of 19 individuals comprising of a mixture of Paediatricians with subspecialisation in Emergency Medicine and Emergency Medicine Consultants with a sub-speciality interest in Emergency Paediatrics.

Applicants should be on the specialist register for Paediatric Medicine with a sub-speciality interest in Paediatric Emergency Medicine or on the specialist register for Emergency Medicine with a subspecialty interest in Paediatrics, within 6 months of obtaining their CCT in either.

Instructor status in APLS/EPLS/ATLS or equivalent is preferable and in date APLS provider status is essential. Experience of Child Protection Issues and Paediatric transfer/ retrieval and Major trauma is desirable.

Main duties of the job

The Children's Hospital runs a single front door model supported by an adjacent 8 bedded short stay ward which is overseen by the Paediatric Emergency team. This hospital is a busy inner city teaching hospital, with the Children's Emergency Department seeing just under 49,000 patients in the last year.

The Children's Emergency Department acts as the receiving clinical area for all children either as a primary attendance or a regional secondary transfer referred to the Paediatric Major Trauma Centre from the trauma units. The Bristol Royal Hospital for Children is 1 of 5 standalone designated PMTC and is located within the Severn and Peninsular Trauma Networks

The Children's Emergency Department is the designated training site for Paediatric Emergency Medicine in the South West for both paediatric trainees sub-specialising in emergency and Emergency trainees sub-specialising in paediatrics.

  • Fully registered with GMC.
