Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Neurosurgery

Job summary

The successful applicant will work as part of a team with this group of Consultants at Bristol Children's Hospital. They will provide assistance in theatre, undertake a twice daily ward round and liaise with their Consultant regarding management decisions. They will attend outpatients and the clinical meetings. There is a daily 7.30am Consultant ward round. There is a Joint Neurosciences Meeting on a weekly basis. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to present at the Joint Neurosciences Meetings and undertake research projects. They will be expected to participate in the departmental audit programme. They will provide cover for Deanery trainees (NTNs) when they attend teaching sessions at North Bristol NHS Trust or the Deanery.

Main duties of the job

Paediatric Neurosurgery Clinical Fellows (ST3+ level) are required based at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.We are the regional Paediatric Major Trauma Centre. We have one of only 2 intra-operative MRI suites for children in the UK and have a strong interest in paediatric neuro-oncological surgery. The service is based at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children (BRHC) following transfer with other specialised services from North Bristol NHS Foundation Trust earlier this year. A ward with 16 beds is the main focus of activity with an infrastructure to include Outpatients, Theatres and Radiology- all Paediatric orientated.The out of hours commitment is a 1 in 6 non-resident on-call Rota. There are close links between the University of Bristol and University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust with the National Institute for Health Research Biomedical Research Unit in Cardiovascular Disease based at the Bristol Heart Institute and the jointly funded Clinical Research Imaging Centre at St Michaels Hospital. The Paediatric Neurosurgery Department has an active research programme.Provisional start date: August 2024

Qualifications

  • MB BS (or equivalent)
  • Full registration with the GMC
