Job summary

Weston Intensive Care Unit (WICU) has a an exciting opportunity for a permanent Band 3 Senior Health Care Support Worker to work 34.5 hours per week.

WICU is a four bed unit with a small and very friendly team who care for a range of Level 2 and 3 patients from both emergency and elective admissions.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person who is keen to provide high quality, patient-centred care to join us.

The position also includes some administrative duties to support the nursing team and ensure the smooth running of the unit.

Main duties of the job

  • Participate in patient assessment and care utilising care plans, providing high quality holistic patient care and escalating concerns about patients to other clinical staff.
  • Carry out daily checks on emergency equipment, trolleys and empty bed spaces ensuring they are clean, stocked and ready for use.
  • Ensuring equipment and stores are well maintained, taking appropriate action if the equipment is faulty - Report to and deliver equipment to MEMO as required.
  • Take responsibility for stock control at unit level through requisition and receipting of stores.
  • Take responsibility in identifying areas of risk to nurse in charge.
  • Report all complaints, incidents or accidents to the nurse in charge of the unit and will complete the appropriate documentation.
  • To maintain a close working relationship with the Team leaders, Sisters, Matron, performing any duties delegated, prioritising own workload accordingly.

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • One of the following: Level 3 (SCQF - 6): - City and Guilds 3, NVQ 3, BTEC National Diploma, Experience equivalent to the above qualifications.
  • Level 2 Functional skills in English and Math's, or equivalent
  • Completion of Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support (that maps to the Apprenticeship Standard for Senior Health Care Support Worker).
  • Equivalent experience

Aptitudes

  • Able to demonstrate calm, caring patient manner / attitude
  • Enthusiasm and commitment to working within the healthcare setting
  • Effective and appropriate communication skills both written and verbal
