Consultant Haematologist with a specialist interest in Bone Marrow Transplantation and Immune Effector Cell Therapy
University Hospitals Bristol and Weston (UHBW) NHS Foundation Trust is looking to appoint a dynamic and enthusiastic Haematology Consultant to join our team. This is a substantive full time post (10PAs) and is based at the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre (BHOC).
The successful candidate will join the established multi-disciplinary BMT / CAR T cell therapy and leukaemia teams and work alongside the current 4.3 BMT consultants, 4 leukaemia consultants, 2 BMT associate specialists, 5 BMT and leukaemia clinical nurse specialists, a BMT fellow, leukaemia fellow and BMT specialist registrar. The post holder will deliver all aspects of clinical care for patients undergoing allogeneic and autologous stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy, including CAR T cells, in addition to participating in the management of patients with acute leukaemia. They will participate in a ward based attending system for BMT / IEC and haematology, providing clinical care to adults with malignant and benign haematological disorders in Bristol. They will also be required to provide clinical cover for adult BMT, IEC therapy and haematology patients whilst on call and undertake a weekly BMT clinic and Leukaemia clinic. Whilst the post will be based at Bristol there may be a need to work across all sites at UHBW, including Weston in the future.
Main duties of the job
UHBW is one of the largest acute Trusts in the country and a major teaching and research centre for the South West. The Bristol Haematology Unit offers tertiary level service for stem cell transplants, CAR T cell therapy, Haemostasis and Haemophilia, haemato-oncology, and haemoglobinopathy. The adult Haematology department has 16 haematology consultants who work between Bristol and Weston Hospitals based at Bristol Haematology & Oncology Centre (BHOC). There is a strong emphasis on research with BHOC trials unit actively recruiting in over 100 trials, and close links with the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England.
The Bristol BMT Unit is a nationally and internationally recognised stem cell transplant unit which performs every type of allograft and is consistently the top recruiter to national transplant studies. In December 2018, the adult BMT Unit became one of the first wave of six UK transplant centres to be commissioned by NHS England to deliver CAR T cells and is also one of 12 funded IMPACT centres.
