This is an exciting opportunity to join the WATCh Service as a trainee AP or as an Advanced Practitioner. The successful applicant will join the already established team of APs. WATCh is the supra-regional Paediatric Critical Care Transport Service serving the Paediatric Intensive Care Units (PICU) in the Noah's Ark Children's Hospital for Wales (UHW), Cardiff and the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, Bristol.

If required, the successful applicant will be funded to complete a Masters pathway in Advanced Clinical Practice and will receive their clinical training and support primarily through WATCh, with some additional time working in the PICU and Theatres within Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. In addition, post holders are expected to qualify as Independent Non-Medical Prescribers and will be supported to complete the relevant academic programme to achieve this (all through London South Bank University and The Evelina Children's Hospital).

Applicants must have substantial experience within children's critical care.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will join an experienced, innovative and passionate team that is continuously striving for improvement. The role will require the post holder to initiate and assume responsibility for the stabilisation and ongoing management of critically ill children and their families, and to have the freedom to interpret and act within broad policies and protocols.While predominately based with the WATCh Service, time will also be spent working in the PICU and Theatres within Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.

The post holder will exercise complex levels of judgment, discretion and decision making in providing expert clinical care within the specifically defined competency framework. Regular educational supervision with a Consultant Mentor will support the maintenance of these and other skills.
