Job summary
Are you a mechanical or electrical biased engineer who is keen to diversify your skillset and apply yourself within the industry of Medical Gas Pipeline Systems (MGPS) and be part of the NHS Team?
Experience of working within the piped medical gas industry is not essential for this role as the necessary training to become a medical gas engineer will be provided via courses and in-house training.
MEMO Clinical Engineering provide its customers with support for all its piped medical gas systems equipment. This ranges from carrying out pre-planned maintenance checks (PPMs), repair and servicing work such as repairing medical gas terminal outlets in clinical areas, electrical fault finding on monitoring systems, servicing pumps and compressors in plant rooms, daily management of piped medical gas systems and surveying and installing new pipework and equipment, just to name a few.
Main duties of the job
- Participate in the medical gas pipeline systems 'out of hours' on-call rota to provide an emergency support service to our customers (in the Bristol region).
- Carry out maintenance, service and repair, installation, commissioning and testing of medical gas pipelines.
- Analyse and diagnose faults in a range of complex piped medical gas equipment and patient-critical mechanical equipment.
- Progress to Authorised Person (AP) status for MGPS, for the contracted sites.
- Organise own workload and prioritise routine and breakdown work based on experience, demands and needs of the clinical areas.
- The post-holder must deal with equipment problems in close proximity to patients, in user areas such as theatres, intensive care, wards and in patients' homes. This proximity will occasionally expose the post-holder to traumatic, distressing or emotional circumstances.
- Some repair work, e.g. in Theatres or Intensive Care may have to be carried out under pressure from clinical staff to complete the work in the shortest possible time, as the care of the patient connected to the equipment may be compromised by prolonged unavailability of equipment/services.
- Drive to other premises outside University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust to carry out work. A full UK driving license is essential.
