Job summary

University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) will be undertaking Robotic Surgery and as part of this new venture we are looking for qualified and experienced robotic enhanced surgical first assistant/ surgical care practitioners. The Robotic surgery will be based in Hey Groves Theatres, Bristol Royal Infirmary. The successful candidates will be working with a number of specialities such as Thoracic, colorectal, GI, HPB, ENT and Gynaecology.

This post is suitable for and experienced registered nurse/operating department practitioner who has demonstrated a high level of clinical achievement and clinical excellence. You will be required to develop your clinical skills in order the support the implementation of the robotic surgery service at UHBW

You will be working in partnership with members of the multidisciplinary team to develop, implement and evaluate the robotic surgical service, whilst ensuring that patients receive the highest standard of clinical care. As part of this specialist team, you will develop and demonstrate a high level of expertise within the role.

A relocation package is available for successful candidates (subject to meeting the required criteria).

Main duties of the job

As a registered healthcare professional with an extended scope of practice, under the supervision and direction of the Consultant Surgeon the Enhanced Surgical First Assistant Surgical Care Practitioner (SCP) will act as first or second assistant for surgical procedures in theatre and be responsible for carrying out specific procedures during operations. As Lead Specialist in this defined area of care, you will work closely with consultant surgeons, medical staff and other surgical care practitioners to develop this role to its full potential.

The post holder will perform these duties with a high degree of clinical skill and knowledge in accordance with the NMC or HPC codes of conduct, and practice within the limits of Trust policies and guidelines. As Lead Specialist, you will be self-directed, providing development to medical and nursing staff, and disseminate your knowledge and skills to others You will lead clinical and non-clinical audit projects presentations aimed at improving patient care. You will maintain a high level of skill and professionalism, provide portfolio evidence and Royal College of Surgeons accreditation. This will be with Trust support on day release basis, and on the job training.
