Are you an experienced Pharmacist with the knowledge and skills to develop highly specialist pharmacy services in Haematology? If so an exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and enthusiastic Haematology Pharmacist to join the Pharmacy team at UHBW.

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced clinical pharmacist to lead a team of pharmacists and technicians and be responsible for supervising and overseeing the pharmacy haematology service, implementing new developments and ideas whilst ensuring that current and future professional standards are achieved.

The BHOC clinical pharmacy team comprises of approximately 20 pharmacists and two medicines management technicians working across a range of specialties including adult oncology and haematology, teenagers and young adults, bone marrow transplant and Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T-cell therapies. The haematology service also supports patients with non-malignant haematological disorders such as ITP, TTP and haemoglobinopathies.

In addition the post holder will have the benefit of working one day each week for NHS England, providing specialist, expert pharmaceutical advice to support the commissioning of SACT services, the implementation of NICE/CDF guidance and the delivery of improving value initiatives relating to SACT services.

Main duties of the job

As divisional lead the post holder will have leadership and management responsibility for the haematology clinical pharmacy service in BHOC, in collaboration with and complementing the role of the Divisional Lead Pharmacist for Oncology. They will lead and strategically develop a high level, expert clinical pharmacy service in the speciality of adult and TYA haematology, including transplant and immune effector cell therapies.

The post holder will be required to practice as an independent prescriber within a multi-disciplinary team, optimising patient outcomes and improving the patient experience and to provide expert pharmaceutical care to haematology patients in BHOC, involving liaison with medical, nursing, pharmacy and other healthcare staff, and with patients and their carers with regards to medicine related issues.

The post holder will oversee the implementation of new therapies, for example via NICE technology appraisals, Early Access to Medicines Schemes (EAMS) or haematology treatments funded by the Cancer Drugs Fund. Evaluate the impact on the Trust of forthcoming haematology treatments, reporting expenditure on cancer drugs / supportive medications, and ensuring the appropriate use of SACT, leading on audits as required.

In addition the post holder will work with the NHS England Lead Cancer Pharmacist, the CDF Operational Team and the relevant NHS England hub pharmacist(s) in evaluation and co-ordination of the planning and development of SACT services.

Essential

  • Pharmacist registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Post-graduate qualification in clinical pharmacy or clinical oncology/haematology, or equivalent level of knowledge and experience.

Desirable

  • Supplementary/Independent Prescriber registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Credentialled as a Consultant Pharmacist with Royal Pharmaceutical Society

Knowledge and Experience

  • Recent experience of working at an advanced level (Band 8a or equivalent) in a Clinical Pharmacy specialty.
  • Experience of providing a clinical pharmacy service to cancer patients, preferably Haematology patients.

  • Knowledge of the legal and regulatory frameworks for the dispensing, prescribing, storage and administration of medicines
  • Experience and evidence of protocol development
  • Experience of analysing and advising on drugs budgets, and providing other medicines related financial information to clinical and non-clinical staff
