Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time Ward Clerk to join our busy and fast paced Acute Medical Unit.

We are looking to recruit an individual to work alongside our already established and experienced part time admin team. The candidate will be required to 15 -22.5 hours per week. To fit the needs of the service, the candidate will be required to work every Friday between the hours of 7.00 - 15.00 or 8.00 -16.00, which is negotiable. The rest of the contracted hours of employment can be worked over a Sat/Sun or throughout weekday afternoons/evenings, between the hours of 15.30 - 21.30 (This can be flexible and negotiable at interview).

Main duties of the job

Interested applicants must have excellent communication skills, be a good team player and enjoy meeting and working with the public.

Basic computer skills are also a requirement for the job and NHS experience would be an advantage, however full training will be given to the successful applicant on use of the hospital computer systems.

As a Ward Clerk, you will provide clerical and administration support to the ward and clinical/medical staff and be the first point of contact for all visitors to the unit.

  • To provide confidential and courteous secretarial/administration support to the ward staff, patients and visitors.
  • To time manage and prioritise own work within an ever changing environment, using initiative consistently.
  • To monitor IT systems and provide IT support for the ward staff and clinical team.
  • Ensure that patient medical record systems are available and correctly maintained
  • To manage telephone enquiries on behalf of the ward staff and respond accordingly.
  • To coordinate and support patient transport, appointments and other external requests.
  • To maintain the nurses desk, keeping a tidy space and order stationary and paperwork as required.
