Job summary
Knightstone is a busy 12 bed surgical ward; 6 beds are for patients who have had elective arthroplasty surgery which includes knee and hip replacements and 6 are for surgical patients who come from day case, wards, and ED, with a suitable criteria for Knightstone ward.
The Knightstone ward team work closely together to provide high quality care, tailored to each individual patient
You will need to be an excellent team player and have a passion for high quality, patient centred care. Working at an acute NHS Trust is challenging and you will need to be able to adapt and change according to the demands of the role.
For candidates new to Healthcare, we offer a Band 2 "new to care" HCSW role. If you do not currently hold a Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care, we can support you as work towards this qualification.
If you are keen to progress to a Band 4 registered Nursing Associate role in the future, this is the place to work! We are actively supporting the trainee Nursing Associate programme, and keen to support future apprentices in this role.
Knightstone is an inpatient ward, and you will be required to work long shifts (12hours) which include days/nights, weekends and Bank Holidays. This is physically demanding role, assisting patients who may have poor mobility, and you will be on your feet for long periods. This is an emotionally demanding role and requires you to adapt quickly to the constantly changing clinical demands on an acute inpatient ward.
Main duties of the job
1. Obtain consent prior to giving care in accordance with Trust policies2. Duties delegated to you in line with care plans3. Not all duties are routine, and you will need to use your knowledge, experience and understanding to take decisions within your area of responsibility4. To carry out a range of clinical duties with minimal / no supervision, including: blood pressure monitoring, oxygen saturation levels, body temperature, pulse andrespiration rate, glucose monitoring, collection and testing of urine samples / faecal samples / sputum samples and wound swabs ensuring delivery of high-quality patient care at all times5. Participate in patient assessment providing high quality holistic patient care and escalating concerns about patients to other clinical staff6. Practice safe standards of care to patients following Trust guidelines and policies and policies and be able to concentrate for periods throughout the day with occasional interruptions.7. Provide clinical care in accordance with the infection prevention and health and safety policies and procedures.8. Maintain the work environment in line with Trust infection control and patient safety policies
10. Promote health education specific to the clinical area and in line with national and local policies11. Maintain accurate records relating to communication with patients, relatives, and members of the Multidisciplinary team regarding all aspects of care demonstrating a range of appropriate communication skills
