Job summary
This is an excellent opportunity to take on a patient-facing role, working as part of our ward-based team within the Surgical division. You will support our highly motivated clinical pharmacists, contribute to our dispensary service, and be encouraged to innovate or work on novel ways to make and drive change in our department. We are currently working on a project to support ward-based discharges, and in the coming years hope to expand our service to include involvement in the pre-operative admission clinic. This is a permanent position, however compressed or flexible working hours will be considered, so we encourage you to contact us for more information.We are looking for an enthusiastic, hardworking pharmacy technician to work closely with members of the multidisciplinary team delivering high quality patient-centred care. We would welcome candidates who are currently working towards their Medicines Optimisation qualification, who are newly qualified Pharmacy Technicians or who are experienced Pharmacy Technicians with a background working in Community Pharmacy. You will be supported in your role by the Lead Pharmacy Technicians for Medicines Optimisation and Education and Training, and by the Lead Surgical Pharmacist and Specialty Team.
Main duties of the job
Clinical Medicines Optimisation Technicians are key to delivering our clinical pharmacy services at ward level. This post will form part of the core adult clinical service, being integrated into the adult surgery team where you will assist with the day-to-day service, including but not limited to identifying high-risk patients, taking detailed medication histories, prioritising and actioning medication orders, identifying and enabling early discharges, and providing medication counselling at discharge. For your commitment to us we will ensure you receive personal development and training opportunities, such as through completing Clinical Prioritisation or Leadership training. There is also an opportunity for training and line management to form part of your duties.The job will be split with 80% working clinically on adult wards with 20% (1 day a week) dispensary commitment, providing clinical advice to dispensers and contributing to the final checking process as a qualified accredited checking technician. This role will also contribute to working shifts including lates, weekends, and bank holidays on a rota basis. You must be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council and preferably hold Accuracy Checking or Medicines Optimisation qualifications, though we will support you to achieve this if you do not already. Previous UK hospital experience in surgery is not essential.
