This is an exciting opportunity for a cardiologist to join our rapidly growing team caring for adult patients with congenital heart disease. The Bristol Adult Congenital Heart Disease Unit (ACHD) is a specialised centre for adults with congenital heart disease within the Bristol Heart Institute . Our team consists of 4 full-time ACHD Consultant Cardiologists and 1 Congenital Cardiologist with a mixed paediatric and adult practice. We have 4 congenital cardiac surgeons, 4 specialist ACHD nurses, two senior ACHD fellows, one ACHD NTN trainee, an MDT co-ordinator and full admin support. The unit is closely linked with General/Acquired Cardiac Services and the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.
We are looking for dynamic individuals who want to join our ACHD team. . The following subspecialty interests are desirable: Imaging, including peri-procedural imaging, Maternal cardiology and experience with Palliative care. The expected ACHD on-call and ward cover commitment will approximately be 1 in 5, with cross cover. The post-holder will work in close collaboration with the ACHD team, consultant cardiologists, paediatric cardiologists, congenital cardiac surgeons, obstetricians, cardiac anaesthetists and the intensive care teams.
Applicants should hold MRCP (UK) or equivalent qualification and should be on the General Medical Council (GMC) specialist register, or be within 6 months of their CCT date at interview.
Main duties of the job
This is a Consultant Cardiologist post with a specialist interest in Adult Congenital Heart Disease (and Obstetric Cardiology). The post-holder will principally contribute to the ACHD service, including provision of on-call cover (currently a 1:6 weekends). A secondary interest is welcomed that is complementary to the existing departmental team, e.g. Cardiac Imaging, Research etc. can be potentially valuable skills. The post holder will be expected to work in close collaboration with the existing team of Consultant Cardiologists, Cardiac Surgeons, Cardiac Anaesthetists, Obstetricians, Fellows/SpRs, Nurse Specialists and with other specialties in our large acute and tertiary Trust's multidisciplinary environment.
