Job summary

Acute Medicine is an essential pillar of urgent care at the Trust. We have ambitious plans to grow and develop the service at the BRI. Key milestones along this journey will see the expansion of our Acute Medical Unit, Same Day Emergency Care Unit, development of specialist clinical pathways and ultimately the development of a purpose-built Acute Care Hospital on Marlborough Hill.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership and direction for the multi professional team in the management of the acute medical patients. It is expected that they will lead ward rounds, direct the management of patients, perform practical procedures, teach both junior medical and other staff, attend multidisciplinary meetings, take part in the governance activity of the department, participate in the management and administration of the service and liaise with other professionals both within and outside the Trust as required.

he department is rapidly developing and evolving to meet the needs of patients whilst aiming to reduce the need for hospital admission. You will be expected to work in conjunction with the rest of the AMU Consultant team on service development with the aim of improving outcomes and reducing length of stay and bring innovative ideas to further improve care to patients.

  • Full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC)
  • Eligible for specialist registration within six months of interview

  • Higher academic qualification e.g. MD, PhD or equivalent

  • Able to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision

  • Up to date knowledge and experience of relevant specialty
