Job summary

The post holder will manage the admitted operational activities and staff in the admissions team in the Bristol Heart Institute (BHI) working closely with the Assistant Performance and Operations Manager and the Divisional Management team, the post holder will contribute to the delivery of efficient theatre and catheter lab utilisation across Cardiac Services through their expertise across all aspects of admitted list management. The post holder will contribute to the delivery of challenging performance targets through effective communication and liaison with Consultant, medical, nursing and administration staff across the BHI. The post holder will line manage the admission coordinators, providing training and support for the team, including the management of annual leave, sickness, appraisals and ensuring sufficient cover is provided. To coordinate and support the cardiac and cardiology patients pathway to and from referring centres and within the BHI through to discharge or ongoing care. This will involve coordinating the referrals process, pre-transfer management of patients in referring centres, coordinating their transfer to the BHI and ensuring their subsequent discharge or return to the referring centre is carried out in a timely manner. The Admissions Manager will represent the main point of contract for referring Trust and will facilitate their referrals. The post holder will be able to remain calm under pressure and will have excellent interpersonal skills.

Main duties of the job

To line manage the admissions team and specialised services bed managers, including absence/sickness monitoring and appraisal reviews

Act as a single point of contact for referring centres in the management of cardiac surgery and cardiology transfer patients including day to day problem solving

To navigate complex patients through the cardiac surgery pathway, supporting patient experience, best clinical practice and efficient working

To support the local clinical Networks initiative to improve regional cardiac surgery referral processes

To communicate complex and receive complex sensitive information, both written and verbal, across the multi-disciplinary team, and external organisations to maintain confidentiality at all times

Provide a consistent and knowledgeable contact point, answering queries, giving advice and providing information to other departments and to external organisation as necessary

To support ward teams and the BHI Bed Coordinator in securing the prompt step down and subsequent discharge of repatriation of the cardiac surgery patients in accordance with Trust standards

Identify in advance any capacity issues that would affect cardiac services activity

To provide administrative support to the development of patient and services user information for non NHS paying patients
