Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Senior Payroll Administrator who has excellent analytical and numeric skills, displays high attention to detail and shows initiative and adaptation to change, within an evolving department.
As a member of the payroll team within University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust, you will be part of a team responsible for processing the pay, expenses and pensions for over 15,000 members of staff. The department processes both weekly and monthly payrolls. You will be responsible for all aspects of payroll processing, including permanent and variable pay changes within the ESR Payroll/HR System, dealing with pay queries and issues including pay, terms and conditions and HMRC legislation as well as maintaining a good understanding of both national and local pay terms. You will provide support to the Team Leaders as required.
Main duties of the job
- To assist in dealing promptly and appropriately with individual pay enquiries, by means of telephone, personal visit, or written correspondence. Queries may be of a complex nature, although further advice and support can be sought from the team leader. To meet with employees if required, which may involve providing and receiving complex, sensitive and confidential information. To deal with sensitive matters in a calm and empathetic manner.
- Proactively provide payroll advice and support to the payroll department to support the provision of an effective payroll service to the Trust. This includes:
- Working with the Pension team to ensure the correct consideration of all matters relating to pensions when processing starters, leavers and change of conditions
- Working with the Pay team to ensure that the payroll processing properly accounts for all issues, including the rostering system
- Identifying salary overpayments during payroll processing, and escalating these to the team manager

- At least 2 years' experience in a large Payroll department.
- Experience of working with an integrated computerised HR/Payroll system.
Desirable
- Previous NHS or Public Sector service in payroll administration.

- Educated to GCSE Standard or equivalent, with minimum grading of C for Maths and English.
