Cardiac Matron, Division of Specialised Services. Up to 1.0WTE -Band 8a

Due to promotion, a Matron's post has arisen for a senior nurse to develop their career and play a key role in developing our services within the Division of Specialised Services. The post holder will be responsible for supporting and further developing the Cardiac pathways, including cardiac surgery, cardiology & Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, within the Bristol Heart Institute and, where necessary, Weston Hospital. The Bristol Heart Institute at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston is a tertiary and highly specialised hospital providing care and support to not only the population of Bristol but to the region and further.

The role of the Matron is fundamental to ensuring patients receive safe, high quality care, and a positive patient experience which is responsive to the needs of patients, families and their carers. Therefore, we are seeking a senior nurse who has strong leadership skills and is passionate about delivering innovative practice. The post holder will need knowledge, skill, and attention to detail to continue to deliver real improvements in quality. Working closely with the multidisciplinary team the role may encompass cardiology, cardiac surgery pathways including critical care.

We are looking for an individual who is able to support, engage, inspire and develop their teams to enable them to provide the highest quality of care to patients and their colleagues.

Main duties of the job

This post provides strong leadership, visible, credible, senior nursing presence accessible to staff, patients and their families for advice, assistance and support within the cardiac & cardiology service. The post holder will be accountable for the delivery of optimum quality patient care in their area/s of responsibility, and in line with the ten key matron responsibilities outlined nationally (see below).

As Matron, the post holder is expected to ensure that the services provided are responsive to patient needs, that the planning of services involves patients and users, and reflects the diverse population served. There is an expectation that the post holder will work closely with Matrons, Director and Deputy Director of Nursing and ADM/DDM colleagues within the division and across divisional and Trust boundaries in the interest of patient care.
