We are looking for a rotational band 7 specialist Pharmacist to join our existing team of band 7 rotational pharmacists to undertake rotations in pediatric medicine, paediatric Haematology Oncology and BMT, pediatric Cardiology and surgery, Paediatric medicine and Neonatology.

The rotation will consist of 5 posts which will change on a 9-12month basis. The Neonatology and Surgery rotation will be based part of the week at St Michael's hospital and the remaining 4 pediatric rotations will be based in Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. Both hospitals are on the same University Hospitals Bristol NHS Trust site giving you the benefits of working in a smaller day to day team whilst also tapping into the wider pharmacy team in the Trust. At St Michaels Pharmacy you will work alongside 2x 8a pharmacists (NICU and Maternity), 1 Band 7 Pharmacist (Gynecology), a band 6 rotational pharmacist, 1 Senior pharmacy technician, a senior stock specialist and a pharmacy assistant. The team is made up of 15 Paediatric Pharmacists ranging from 8c-band 7's, 2 rotational band 6 Pharmacists, technicians and SATO's.

Main duties of the job

  1. To provide a daily clinical pharmacy service to designated area(s) in order to provide pharmaceutical care to patients and ensure the safe, appropriate & cost-effective use of medicines at all stages of the drug use process, monitor patients for adverse drug events and minimise medication-associated risk.
  2. Regularly visit wards, working closely with the wider multi-disciplinary team involved in providing seamless patient care.
  3. Using knowledge and expertise contribute to the cost effective, safe and efficient prescribing and utilisation of medicines and improve patient experience.
  4. Advise all health care professionals on the safe, appropriate and cost-effective use of medicines.
  5. Promote the safe, efficient and rational prescribing of medicines in line with current trust policies. Record pharmaceutical interventions and attend clinical meetings as required.
  6. Provide a comprehensive and thorough enquiry answering service and answer pharmaceutical enquiries related to the hospital's specialist services. Liaise with directorate and regional drug information services as required.
  7. Ensure that agreed local and national guidelines, policies and procedures are affected at ward level.
  8. To report medication errors, incidents and complaints using the appropriate trust systems
