Job summary

An opportunity has arisen to join the Department of Otolaryngology / Head & Neck Surgery at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust. The service provides adult and Paediatric outpatient and inpatient ENT activity at the major teaching hospital in Bristol, but also provides outreach clinics and inpatient support and advice across a range of other sites.

The Trust is the regional centre for Otolaryngology, major head and neck surgery, skull base surgery, major ear surgery and hearing implantation.

The post is at Senior House Officer level (ST1-2) and the 1 in 10 full shift rota and other clinical duties are shared with 5 GP/VTS Trainees. These clinical posts however will have opportunities for audit and research which will be decided after initial establishment of an educational contract. Clinical duties will include emergency on call cover, ward cover and outpatient clinics as well as the opportunity to attend operating theatres.

These posts would suit doctors who have a career interest in ENT. The posts have a August 2023 start date.

Main duties of the job

The appointee/s will join the ENT department which consists of 11 consultants, 7 specialty registrars, 3 specialty doctors, 4 GP trainees and5 clinical fellows and two clinical education fellows (this post).The department provides local and regional ENT services for adults and children. This includes specialist paediatric, otological implant and head and neck services. Responsibilities include admission and care of adult and paediatric emergency and elective ENT patients. The appointee willalso contribute to the provision of ENT Hot Clinics. The appointee will participate in the on call rota alongside GP trainees and Clinical Fellows. There will be opportunities to participate in clinical audit, research, teaching and service improvement projects. Appointees will be assigned a consultant clinical supervisor.

The Clinical Education Fellow will also act as supervisor to the Undergraduate Physician Associates and Clinical Practitioners. They will be responsible for overseeing the acquisition of the requiredclinical competencies for their named trainee/s during the placement. They will be required to participate in medical students' education. 50% of the post will be spent in the educational part of this post (non-clinical) and 50% will be spent in the clinic part of the post. In addition there will be an on call commitment during the clinical part of the post
