Band 7 Clinical Scientist - Radiotherapy Computing
The Scientific Computing team (SciCom) provides a clinical and developmental IT service to Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre (BHOC). The main function of SciCom is to design, monitor and develop the computing infrastructure to enable provision of a state-of-the-art radiotherapy service for patients.
The post holder is responsible in collaboration with other members of the SciCom team and a multidisciplinary team of Clinicians, Radiographers, Medical Physicists, and clinical engineers for the design and development of clinical systems according to specification and for monitoring and maintaining the radiotherapy computing service.
Main duties of the job
Key Duties
- Support core radiotherapy systems, covering commercial products and in-house projects.
- Development of in-house projects, applying knowledge of radiotherapy and DICOM while adhering to and enforcing sound practices.
- Maintain and configure computing infrastructure for commercial and in-house radiotherapy systems while liaising with Trust IT department and vendors as necessary, covering Windows and Linux operating systems and the VMWare virtualisation platform.
- Oversee installation, configuration, and maintenance of clinical systems by external vendors.
- Take part and develop in data governance processes, including backup and archiving activities, audits of data management and disaster recovery processes, and providing response to patient data incidents.
- Testing of critical clinical systems for use in radiotherapy following changes and migrations.
- Training of staff within and outside the team in use of radiotherapy systems and the tools used to develop radiotherapy systems.
- Effectively communicate specialist ideas with multidisciplinary teams to correctly specify future developmental work and to resolve existing issues.
- As a Clinical Scientist, retain HCPC registration and use experience to advise on clinical impact of changes to systems, including risk assessments and technical documentation.
