University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) seeks applicants for a number of one year, Clinical Teaching Fellow posts at core training level 1-2 Level, post core training or ST3+ level to commence in August 2022. This post is predominantly focused on the Complex Medicine for Older People unit of teaching (4th year students).

The post provides an ideal opportunity for the successful candidate to work in a highly active undergraduate clinical teaching setting, which is part of a busy inner city University Hospital. The successful candidates will be actively involved in organising and delivering undergraduate medical education and will be encouraged to undertake a funded Certificate in Teaching & Learning for Health Professionals at the University of Bristol.

Main duties of the job

Eight sessions a week will be spent in developing your skills in undergraduate medical education. Main teaching responsibilities will relate to the delivery of

  • The Year 1 HCA tutorials and weekly half day clinical attachments
  • The Year 2 Effective Consulting Clerkship (3 weeks) and weekly half day clinical attachments
  • The Year 3 Full time clinical clerkship including medicine & surgery, musculoskeletal disease, trauma, dermatology and acute and peri-operative care with emergency medicine (Main focus is on medicine and surgery).
  • Year 4 'Life Cycle' year - Clinical Teaching Fellow involvement mainly with Complex Medicine for Older People unit.
  • Year 5 - Full time (9 week) assistantships in Acute and Critical Care, Primary and Community Care and Ward Based Care. Elective at the start of year

There are also opportunities to become involved in teaching in other specialties depending on skills and requirements. The successful candidate will participate in bedside, small group teaching and tutorials, as well as assisting in the organisation and running of assessments, both locally and at the Medical School.

The appointee has the opportunity to do a maximum of 1 day per week (on average) of clinical work in an area of their interest. These days are designed to be flexible and it is expected that at busier times of the academic year, you will prioritise your teaching time.
