If this sounds interesting then get in touch. This is a key role to support the delivery of a robust and agile corporate governance function in a large teaching hospital. With a team strategy of delivering excellence you will play a key role in ensuring we deliver this ambition.
The ideal candidate will have or be working towards the CGI company secretary qualification, and will have experience of working in a large complex organization in a corporate governance role.
However if you are interested in undertaking this role, but are not yet qualified, then the role will be offered at a Band 8a with training support to undertake the qualification. Once successfully completed the role will be uplifted to a Band 8b.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will be required to deputise across the Director of Corporate Governance role when required, providing advice to the Chair, Accountable Officer/Chief Officer, Committee Chairs on corporate governance, and statutory and regulatory compliance.
Board and committee management :
- To lead on the following processes for the Trust Board, the Audit Committee, Quality and Outcomes Committee:
- Forward agenda planning, identifying priorities within the Trust's business and highlighting key issues for discussion and decision
- Drafting meeting agendas for discussion and agreement with Committee Chairs
- Managing the timely collation and circulation of meetings papers
- Taking minutes of Committee meetings (as required)
- Advising Committee Chairs on procedural and governance matters, referring to the Trust Secretary if necessary
- To act as the first point of contact and the public face of the Trust with stakeholders and the public in matters relating to meetings of the Trust

- Working knowledge of corporate governance and legislation and best practice
- Substantial experience (3 years minimum) of working at a senior level in a complex public sector organisation
- 2 (two) years' experience of managing Board level Committees
- Demonstrable track record of dealing effectively with Corporate Governance and principles of business conduct in a large organisation
- Experience of supervision and management of staff and budget management
- Experience of dealing with corporate governance and business conduct principles in large organisations
- Developing and implementing policies
- Working with external assessment agencies and bodies
- Working in a corporate role as a senior manager
- Involvement in, and leading organisational change
- Managing and influencing corporate agendas
- Understanding of the dynamics and complexities of the NHS environment

- Detailed knowledge of corporate governance and legislation best practice
