Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston Foundation Trust for three Clinical Teaching Fellows (ST Grade) in Medical Education based in Weston General Hospital (North Somerset Academy). These are full time, non rota posts and are available for one year commencing 3 August 2022. This post offers the opportunity to become intensively involved in Medical/Surgical Education of Medical Students for a period of time whilst maintaining clinical exposure and experience in a supportive educational environment.

The prime function of the post holder is as a teacher delivering core content and providing tutoring and pastoral support for medical students in years 2-5 of the undergraduate curriculum of the University of Bristol. The post holder is expected to undertake Medical Education Certificate course - sessions averaged through the year. There is an expectation that the candidate will be involved in educational research whilst in post and there is a good track record of successful projects.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Teaching fellow is a key member of the Undergraduate Medical Education Team of North Somerset Academy, based in Weston General Hospital. This post offers the opportunity to become intensively involved in Medical and or Surgical Education of Medical and Dental Students, whilst maintaining clinical exposure and experience in a supportive educational environment. The prime function of the post holder is as a teacher delivering core content and providing tutoring for medical and dental students in years 2-5 of the undergraduate curriculum of the University of Bristol. Teaching will take place in a variety of forms: Small group tutorials, larger group tutorials, skill based practical sessions, bedside clinical teaching and clinic based history and examination and simulation of clinical scenarios.

This post is not recognised by the Royal Colleges for General Professional Training or by the Royal College of General Practitioners for Vocational Training. The post however, is educationally sound and well supported. Applicants must ensure they are aware of the implications to their career plans when applying for this.

  • Fully registered with the GMC

Clinical Experience

  • Completed F1/Pre-Registration year (or equivalent outside the UK)
  • Held a substantive appointment at F2/SHO level in a UK hospital for at least 1 year`
