CONSULTANT IN PAEDIATRIC EMERGENCY MEDICINE - 8 PA
We are seeking to recruit one highly motivated and clinically focused individual to work as a substantive Paediatric Emergency Medicine Consultant. This post will bring the consultant establishment to 10.8 FTE.
The Trust has both Adult and Paediatric Emergency Departments in the Bristol Royal Infirmary and Bristol Royal Children's Hospital. The appointee will be working within the Children's Emergency Department which is based in Bristol Royal Children's Hospital.
They will join a consultant team of 13 individuals comprising of a mixture of Paediatricians with subspecialisation in Emergency Medicine and Emergency Medicine Consultants with a sub-speciality interest in Emergency Paediatrics.
Applicants should be on the specialist register for Paediatric Medicine with a sub-speciality interest in Paediatric Emergency Medicine or on the specialist register for Emergency Medicine with a subspecialty interest in Paediatrics, within 6 months of obtaining their CCT in either.
Instructor status in APLS/EPLS/ATLS or equivalent is preferable and in date APLS provider status is essential. Experience of Child Protection Issues and Paediatric transfer/ retrieval and Major trauma is desirable.
General Paediatrics with a sub-specialist interest in Paediatric Emergency Medicine* or Emergency medicine with an interest in Paediatrics*.

Main duties of the job
The appointed Consultant will join a team responsible for the reception, resuscitation, diagnosis and emergency treatment of patients under the age of 16 presenting to the Paediatric Emergency Department.
All GP and speciality referred paediatric patients are admitted via the BRCH Emergency Department and there is close liaison with the paediatric specialist teams in the Children's Hospital. Patients referred to specialist units within the hospital are the responsibility of that specialist team, who will see the patient in the Emergency Department and arrange
appropriate care. However, medical and nursing staff in the ED is responsible for any emergency care necessary. This shared care is seamless and collaborative and supported by a series of agreed protocols. It is expected that this post holder will on appointment continue to further develop the liaison interface between the ED and the in-patient general paediatric and sub-speciality teams.
