Paediatric Dietitian

1.0wte 37.5 hours per week - Fixed Term 12 Months

We are excited to advertise a fixed term 12month post for a Band 5 paediatric dietitian. This post offers fantastic development opportunities for someone wanting a career in Paediatric Dietetics. The post largely focuses on acute specialities including general medical. Our wider specialities also include nephrology, oncology, diabetes, gastroenterology, inherited metabolic disease, Barth's syndrome, neonatology, neurology including ketogenic, obesity, PICU, burns, medical, cystic fibrosis. We also have a rapidly growing outpatient service which includes feeding problems, faltering growth, allergy and complex needs and the post will support this as felt appropriate.

Our department is committed to student training, quality improvement, research and audit. These new roles will be led and supervised by a specialists dietitian and also you will have access to a dietetic mentor. We pride ourselves on our commitment to continuing professional development and will provide a sound platform for your developing career. We are a friendly department of 27 dietitians, supported by dietetic support workers, Special Feed Unit staff and admin staff.

Main duties of the job

We are part of the newly merged University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW). Bristol is a fantastic city to live and work in with lots of opportunities.

Ideally you will be able to evidence that you have gained considerable paediatric experience within your student placement or have already got some adult experience with a passion to learn paediatrics within a tertiary unit. You must be enthusiastic and flexible. Additionally, you must be a good communicator and team worker who can self-direct your learning quickly. You should be computer literate.

Patient Care:

  • Manages individual patients safely and effectively, carrying out the dietetic care process with competence.
  • Undertake nutritional assessment using specialist equipment if necessary & estimate nutritional requirements.
  • Formulates safe nutritional treatment plans, this may require recommending the use of prescription nutritional supplements & feeds.
  • Monitor the effects of the prescribed treatment making any necessary changes.
  • Review and discharge / hand over care of the patient following local guidelines and procedures.
  • Organise follow-up arrangements according to agreed guidelines and procedures
  • Be responsible for any risks inherent in clinical decision making.
  • Maintain all patient records in line with local and national standards including BDA & HCPC Guidelines.
